RSU Falls To The Bronchos On The Road

EDMOND, Okla. – Rogers State women's basketball (4-11, 0-9 MIAA) fell 86-72 on the road to Central Oklahoma (10-5, 6-3 MIAA) on Saturday.

Three Hillcats finished is double digits on the day. Jordan Lewis led the team with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds with three assists and two steals. Both Chloe Martin and Maisie Schroeder contributed 11 points apiece. Martin added two rebounds, two steals and an assist, while Schroeder added two steals, a rebound and an assist.

The first quarter was quite close with three ties and two lead changes. The Bronchos opened the game with a 6-2 lead, but the Hillcats fought back and tied things at 10-10. RSU proceed to go on a 9-4 run of their own to take their largest lead of the game at 19-14 with 1:53 left in the period. However, UCO closed out the period with five straight points to carry a 21-19 lead into the final 10 minutes of the half.

The Bronchos used the momentum of the previous period to dominate the second quarter, outscoring the Hillcats 26-9. After stringing together multiple lengthy point runs, UCO went to the locker rooms with a 47-28 advantage.

Things didn't get any better for RSU in the third quarter as the Bronchos continued to score at will. They opened the half on an 8-4 run to take a 55-32 lead with 7:14 left in the period. They eventually pushed out to their largest lead of the game at 73-45 and took a 73-47 advantage into the fourth quarter.

RSU showed some fight in the final period as they attempted to mount a comeback by outscoring UCO 25-13 in the quarter. Unfortunately, it would not be enough as they never were able to trim the deficit below 14 points. The Bronchos eventually took the 86-72 victory.

The Hillcats will be back in action on Monday, Jan. 10 as they travel to Wichita, Kan. to face off against Newman. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.
