JOPLIN, Mo. – Rogers State women's basketball (7-13, 3-11 MIAA) fell 73-56 on the road to Missouri Southern (13-5, 10-3 MIAA) on Wednesday.
Kylee Day led the Hillcats with 18 points and shot a career-high 4-for-7 from downtown. Bailey Kliewer put up 11 points with two blocks, matching her season-high. Jordan Lewis cleaned up a team-high five rebounds with nine points and a team-high three assists.
The first five minutes were extremely close with five lead changes and two ties. RSU took its largest lead of the game at 16-8 with 2:35 left in the period thanks to a 9-0 run. However, the Lions answered back with a vengeance as they ripped off a 29-6 run over the final 11-51 in the first half, including the entire second quarter to take a 37-22 lead into the locker room.
Through most of the third quarter, MSSU continued to assert their will as they took their largest lead of the game at 54-31 with 3:15 left in the third quarter. The Hillcats went to work cutting the deficit down as they closed out the period on an 11-3 run to trim the deficit to 57-42.
RSU continued working on the deficit as they opened the fourth quarter with an 11-4 run to cut the lead down to eight points at 61-53. Unfortunately, that would be as close as they would get as the comeback would come up short and the Lions eventually took a 73-56 win.
The Hillcats will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 29 as they travel to Pittsburg, Kan. to face off against Pittsburg State. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
