Hillcats Capture 200th Win In Program History At Newman

WICHITA, Kan. – Rogers State women's basketball (6-11, 2-9 MIAA) notched their 200th win in program history with a 66-53 victory over Newman (2-15, 0-11 MIAA) on the road Tuesday.

Three Hillcats finished in double digits in the win. Bailey Kliewer led the team with 18 points to go with four rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. Vanessa Gajdosova posted 16 points with team-highs of seven assists, six rebounds and four steals. Julie Luna contributed 10 points with four rebounds and an assist.

RSU started slow out of the gate as the Jets outscored them 18-14 in the first quarter. Newman started hot as they opened the game on a 5-0 run. However, the Hillcats found their footing in the second quarter as the began the period on an 8-0 run to take their first lead 22-18. The remainder of the half was close as both teams traded the lead two more times and tied things up two more times as well. Eventually, RSU came out on top as they carried a 32-29 advantage into the locker room.

The second half was all Hillcats as they outscored Newman 34-24 in the final 20 minutes. The Jets refused to go down without a fight though as they were able to trim a seven-point deficit down to just one point midway through the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, RSU began to impose their will and eventually rolled to a 66-53 win.

The Hillcats will be back in action as they return home to the Claremore Expo Center on Thursday, Jan. 20 to face off against Lincoln. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
