CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's soccer picked up a convincing 4-1 victory over No. 14 Central Missouri Sunday afternoon in the final regular season home game at Soldier Field.
Highlights
- The first half was scoreless between the Jennies and Hillcats. Central Missouri controlled the opening quarter of an hour before the Hillcats generated a few scoring chances. Central Missouri led in shots 6-4 after 45 minutes.
- However, in the 48th minute, Rogers State capitalized on a counter attack to take the lead off of a strike from Janell Hernandez from about 14 yards out in the right half of the penalty area. Kori Watter made a long run before playing out to Vanessa Gonzalez on the left, who played a ball into the center of the field for Sarah Ovalle. Ovalle the then found Janell Hernandez at the right corner of the penalty area, where the senior scored her first goal since her freshman season.
- The Hillcats would double their advantage in the 56th minute, as Kori Watters took a pass after a long run from Maggie Brown and Watters then struck a driven shot off of the bottom of the crossbar and just across the goal line from the right corner of the penalty area. The ball bounced immediately out and play initially continued before the assistant referee ruled a goal.
- Watters would get her second goal of the game in the 65th minute to put RSU ahead 3-0. For the second time in the game, Gonzalez and Ovalle teamed up in the buildup of a counter attack goal. Brooklyn Buckminster initially cleared the ball to midfield for Gonzalez, who turned a ran with it before finding Ovalle on the right wing. Ovalle then crossed the ball to the left corner of the penalty area, where Watters controlled it and worked back across the top of the penalty area before firing a right-footed shot into the left corner.
- Hernandez would match Watters with her second goal in the 87th minute to put Rogers State ahead 4-0. Hannah Mushisky chested a ball down at the corner of the penalty area and then found Emalie Clark at the end line. Clark then worked a pass into Hernandez just outside the six-yard box and the senior tucked a shot into the right corner.
- Central Missouri would take the shutout off the board in the 90th minute as Cassie Forcellini forced a turnover and then tucked a shot into the lower right corner from outside the penalty area.

- The Hillcats finished with 24 shots in the game to just 11 for Central Missouri.
- Rogers State had 12 shots on goal, while the Jennies finished with just six attempts on frame.
- Both teams ended up with eight corner kicks in the game.

Game Notes
- Hernandez scored her first two goals of the season and her first goal since her freshman year, when she had three goals. It was the first two goal game of her career.
- It was also the first two-goal game for Watters, who now has a team high five goals this season.
- The victory is the first for the Hillcats over a ranked opponent since joining the MIAA.
- Rogers State improved to 1-0-1 against Central Missouri all-time.
- Ovalle picked up her first career points as a Hillcat with two assists in the game.
- Gonzalez picked up her first two career assists as well, as the freshman sits second on the team with eight points (3G, 2A) this season.
- Clark also scored her first career point for the Hillcats with her assist on the final goal.
