Baseball Drops Doubleheader At Home to Northeastern State

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State baseball fall in games one and two in the three-game series with conference opponent Northeastern State University at the Diamond Sports Complex on Saturday.
 
GAME ONE
Rogers State 1, Northeastern State 15

How It Happened
  • The Hillcats were able to put the first run on the board in the game after sacrifice flyball from Jonothan Soto sent Christian Merriwether in from third base in the bottom of the first inning.
  • However, the remainder of the game would be all RiverHawks, as they would go on to score 15 unanswered runs.
  • In the third, the RiverHawks would four score four runs off of a grand slam by Collin Klingensmith.
  • The RiverHawks added four more runs in the fourth inning, all the runs being unearned after an error.
  • NSU added six runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend the lead to 14-to-1.
  • The final Northeastern State run came in the top of the seven and final inning, as the RIverHawks forced a run rule victory.
Game Notes
  • Merriwether had one of two hits for the Hillcats, as he finished with a run and a walk on the day.
  • Prescott Horn had the other Hillcat hit.
  • Soto had the lone RBI for the Hillcats.
  • Mason Harvey and Brooks Betcher each had a walk at the plate.
  • Brett Karalius picked up his third loss of the season. He had four strikeouts on the day in four innings pitched.
  • The RiverHawks out hit the Hillcats 13-to-2.

How It Happened
  • The RiverHawks would strike first in game two after a Chaz Orr homer to right center field in the top of the fifth inning.
  • In the sixth inning, the RiverHawks would add another run after scoring off of a Hillcat error.
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Hillcats would strike with a run of their own after the RiverHawks tried to pick off Ethan Rivera and that allowed Prescott Horn to steal home.
  • The RiverHawks would score the final run of the game in the eighth inning after an RBI single led to a run.
Game Notes
  • Horn, Rivera, Brandon Bradshaw, and Kyle Simms each had hits in game two.
  • Horn was the lone Hillcat to score a run and had a stolen base as well on the day.
  • Corey Murphy picked up his third loss of the season. He had 10 strikeouts and allowed five hits and two runs.
  • With the loss, the Hillcats drop the series with Northeastern State and look to avoid the sweep on Sunday.

The Hillcats will make the short drive to Tahlequah to take on in-state rival Northeastern State University in game three of the weekend series on Sunday at 2 p.m.
