Hillcats Fall To Northwest Missouri

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Rogers State women's basketball (4-4, 0-2 MIAA) fell 67-59 to Northwest Missouri (6-1, 2-0 MIAA) on Saturday.

Jordan Lewis led the Hillcats with a season-high 22 points with six rebounds. Vanessa Gajdosova posted 10 points with a team-high seven rebounds, two steals and an assist. Katrina Christian contributed seven points with five rebounds, an assist and a steal.

In a slow first quarter for both teams, RSU took a 7-4 lead with 2:40 left in the period after going down 0-2 thanks to a 7-2 run. They took took a 11-6 lead into the final 10 minutes of the half.

Both teams found their footing as the Bearcats opened the quarter on an 8-2 run to retake the lead 14-13. From there the remainder of the half was tightly contested as both teams traded points with five lead changes and two ties. Both teams went into the locker room deadlocked in a 23-23 tie.

After the break, things remained close early, but Northwest Missouri slowly built up a 36-29 lead midway through the period. The Hillcats would battle back with a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 36-34. However, NWMSU responded and took a 42-38 advantage into the final quarter.

In the final 10 minutes, the Bearcats took control stringing together multiple runs while outscoring RSU 25-21 en route to the 67-59 victory.

The Hillcats will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 8 as they come back to the Claremore Expo Center for the MIAA home opener against Pittsburg State. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
