TOPEKA, Kan. – Rogers State women's soccer (6-5-1, 1-4 MIAA) fell to Washburn (6-3-2, 2-2-1 MIAA) in a 3-1 decision on Sunday.
Kori Watters scored the lone goal for the Hillcats. Savannah Harvey registered five saves in goal.
The match played out as a tale of two halves. Even though they were outshot 6-5 in the first half, RSU took care of business and was in control for most of the period. Watters put the Hillcats on the board in the 34th minute with a 1-0 lead that they would hold on to going into the intermission.
In the second half, the Ichabods took control of the match and outshot RSU 8-5, with three shots on goal. Washburn's Tera Lynch connected on the equalizer in the 57th minute to tie the game at 1-1. The Ichabods scored what would go on to become the game winning goal in the 74th minute to take the lead 2-1. With just four minutes left in the match, Lynch added one final goal in the 86th minute to seal the 3-1 win.
The Hillcats will be back in action as they return to Soldier Field on Friday, Oct. 15 to face off against Northwest Missouri State. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m.
