WICHITA, Kan. - The No. 11 Rogers State Softball team swept their doubleheader against former Heartland Conference foe and fellow newbie to the MIAA Newman University winning the first game 17-1 and the second game 5-0.

How it Happened (Game One): The Hillcats got things started early in the first game, scoring two runs in the first inning.
Danelle Day hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score
Sabrina Anguiano. The Hillcats loaded the bases and an error from the Newman first basement allowed
Mikayla Waggnor to score the Hillcats second run.

In the fourth inning the Hillcats put 14 runs across the plate.
Kimberli Presnell put the first run across the plate with a single. Waggnor added another run for the Hillcats with a single as well.

With two outs,
Elexis Watson hit a single to score two more runs for the Navy and Red. The Hillcats then loaded the bases once again and were walked three times in a row to put another three runs on the board to make the score 9-0.

Anguiano then stepped to the plate and blasted a grand slam to left center to clear the bases and make the score 13-0.

After another walk,
Danelle Day stepped to the plate to hit a double to right field and put another run on the board. Watson came to plate next and hit a home run to left field to score the final two runs of the 14-run inning for the Hillacts.

The Hillcats put one more run on the board with a
Faren Walker double to left field to make the score 17-0.

Newman put one run across the plate, but that would be all they could manage as the Hillcats run ruled the Jets after five innings for the win.

How it Happened (Game Two): The Hillcats once again started off the game by scoring in the first inning.
Makayla Bowman singled to left field to put the first run across the plate in the game.

The Hillcats stuck again in the fourth inning. Waggnor hit a double to left field to put another run on the board for the Navy and Red.

Watson stepped up to the plate and hit a single to left field to score Waggnor.
Tailee Reding then hit a ball down the left field line for a double to put a third run across the plate and make the score 4-0.

Reding added another run to the scoreboard in the sixth inning with a single to make the final score 5-0.

Players of Note: Anguiano hit the second grand slam of the year for the Hillcats and her fourth home run of the season. The junior had two doubles, three runs, four RBIs and two stolen bases on the day.

Watson was 3-for-5 from the plate today with a home run, her fifth of the season. Watson also tallied five RBIs, two runs and three walks in the doubleheader.

Day was 4-for-8 from the plate in both games with one being a double and another a triple. Day also had four runs, two RBIs, and three walks.

M'Kayla Hillman pitched a shutout with eight strike outs for the Hillcats to get her sixth win of the season.

Andrea Morales picked up her 14
th win of the season, bouncing back after receiving her first loss of the season. Morales struck out eight batters in the game.

Notes: Rogers State's 14 runs in the fourth inning of game one tied the record for the most runs in an inning in school history for the Hillcats and the most in the NCAA era. The record matched 14 runs in an inning, set in the first inning of a 17-5 win for the Hillcats against Missouri Valley on February 20, 2010 in Fort Worth, Texas. It is the sixth time in school history that the Hillcats scored double-digits in an inning.
