Hillcats Split Day One of Edmond Regional Festival III

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Rogers State softball team split their doubleheader at the Edmond Regional Festival III at Tom Heath Field.
 
The Hillcats dropped the first game to Midwestern State 5-4, but rebounded in the second game, winning 4-3 on a walk off home run against St. Mary's.
 
How it Happened (Game 1): Midwestern state would strike first, as the Mustangs would score two unearned runs in the bottom of the first due to a fielding error.
 
In the second inning, the Mustangs score another run to add to their lead after scoring a run on a fielder's choice to make the score 3-0.
 
The Hillcats would put two runs up in the sixth inning. Haley Womack singled to left field to score Makayla Bowman from third runner and advance Mikayla Waggnor from second to third. Kimberli Presnell then singled to center field to score the Waggnor and cut the Mustangs lead to 3-2 after the top of the sixth inning.
 
However, the Mustangs would respond in the bottom half with a double to center field to score one run, and then a single to score the runner from second an regain a three-run lead.
 
In the final inning, the Hillcats would make one last charge to take the lead. The Hillcats would load up the bases with one out in the inning. A fielder's choice from the Mustangs would score one run for the Hillcats and leave runners on first and second with two outs.
 
Rylee Delozier would then step to the plate in a pinch hit situation and nearly gave the Hillcats the lead, roping a single off the top of the wall in center field to score the runner from second and cut the deficit to 5-4. However, the Hillcats would be unable to add another run.
 
How it Happened (Game 2): The Hillcats would be the first one to score against the Rattlers with Danelle Day hitting a three-run home run to left field in the third inning.
 
The Rattlers would finally get on the board in the fifth inning after a two-run home run of their own to make the score 3-2.
 
In the top of the seventh, the Rattlers would tie the game, after a fielding error from the Hillcats would give up an unearned run to make the score 3-3.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, Abigail Taylor would step up to the plate and blast a home run to left center to give the Hillcats the win on a walk-off home run.
 
Key Players: Taylor's first home run of the season gave the Hillcats their lone win of the day.
 
Day hit her second home run of the season for the Hillcats against St. Mary's.
 
Andrea Morales picked up her 11th win of the season. Every game Morales has started, the Hillcats have won this season. She also had six strikeouts against the Rattlers.
 
Waggnor went be 3-for-5 from the plate for the day. Waggnor would also score two runs, one RBI and steal a base.
 
Key Statistics: The Hillcats would have four errors in the first game against Midwestern State. Two of the run the Mustangs scored were unearned.
 
The Hillcats would leave 10 runners on base against Midwestern State.
 
Up Next: The Hillcats will return to Tom Heath Field in Oklahoma City for the second day of the Edmond Regional Festival III. The Hillcats will play a doubleheader with the first game against No. 21 Texas A&M - Commerce at 12 p.m. and the second game against host, Oklahoma Christian, at 4 p.m.
