WICHITA, Kan. – The Rogers State Men's Soccer team suffered their first defeat of the season on Thursday, falling on the road at Newman University 1-0.
The Hillcats battled with the Jets in a tight game over the first hour before the Jets would find the breakthrough and take the lead in the 64
th minute.
Davide Panucci took a pass from Ignacio Lerech and slid a low roller past
Austin Wormell into the lower-left corner to give the hosts the lead.
Wormell finished with three saves in the game.
The Hillcats would be unable to find an equalizer, despite have a man advantage over the final nine minutes, as Ed Jabarri was shown red for a second yellow card offense.
Luke Morgan and
Jaime Ponce had yellow cards for the Hillcats, along with a yellow for
Derek Larkin. Newman had two yellows, the first to Enzo Nalis and the other to Jabarri.
Rogers State will look to rebound on Saturday, traveling to Hays, Kansas to take on Fort Hays State in Great American Conference play. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at FHSU Soccer Stadium.
