Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Robson's Long Strike Gives Hillcats 2-1 Win Over Oklahoma Christian

CLAREMORE, Okla.Noah Robson scored a highlight goal in the 85th minute to propel the Rogers State Men's Soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Oklahoma Christian Thursday evening.

Robson took a pass from Jesus Ramirez and worked his way to an open spot at the right corner of the penalty area and fired a strike into the top left corner from 24 yards out to give the Hillcats (2-0-1) the lead and win in RSU's home opener.

Robson's winning goal was his first goal of the season and fifth of his career. It was also the Liverpool, England native's second career game-winning goal.

Rogers State took the lead in the first half on another long-range effort as Jake Simpson scored his third goal in three games in the 41st minute. Simpson took a pass from Robson on the left wing and finessed the ball by a diving Anthony Trabichet and RSU's Jordan Watson shielded the ball as it rolled inside the right post.

The Hillcats saw out the rest of the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the break.

During halftime, lightning and rain moved into the area and forced a 68-minute delay.

The Hillcats came out in the second half and had several quality scoring chances. Simpson had another effort saved by Trabichet, who made several key stops. Chris Sowder was played in onside as well but couldn't get his shot clean past the keeper.

Overall the Hillcats had 14 shots in the second half and forced 9 saves, including one team save that was cleared off the line.

However, Oklahoma Christian (2-1-0) would catch a break in the 66th minute, as Michael Turner fouled an Eagle in the box and the visitors were given a penalty.

Diego Vazquez beat Austin Wormell, firing the penalty into the lower left corner to tie the game.

Wormell finished with two saves in the game, as the Eagles were only able to put two of their seven shots on goal.

Ramirez was the only Hillcat to go into the book, receiving a yellow card in the first half. Three players for Oklahoma Christian and the Eagles' Head Coach David Scott were book with yellow cards in the second half.

With the win, the Hillcats remain unbeaten as they welcome in Colorado-State Pueblo on Saturday. Rogers State will kickoff with the ThunderWolvers at 7 p.m. at Soldier Field.
