CLAREMORE, Okla. – Head Coach
Andrea Vaughan picked up her 100
th career victory on Friday as the Hillcats picked up a series sweep of St. Mary's at the Diamond Sports Complex.
The Hillcats were powered by a 10-strikeout performance from
Andrea Morales and walk-off homerun by
Abigail Taylor in game one, as the Hillcats defeated St. Mary's 2-1 for Vaughan's 100
th victory.
In game two, the Hillcats came from behind to win 5-4, completing the Hillcats' first-ever sweep of the Rattlers in program history, as the Hillcats took claim to the top spot in the Heartland Conference standings in the early season battle.
In game one, the visitors took a lead in the fourth inning with an RBI single down the left-field line. It would be the only run that Morales allowed, as the sophomore allowed just four hits and a walk with 10 punchouts.

Jaylan Gibson in the fifth inning.
With the game tied at 1-1, Taylor ended the game on the second pitch in the bottom of the seventh, driving an 0-1 pitch over the fence in straightaway centerfield.
In game two, St. Mary's responded after the game-one loss with three runs in the top of the first inning. The Rattlers took the lead with a homerun and then added two more with a single up the middle, bringing around runners on second and third.
Mikayla Waggnor got one run back in the bottom of the first, hitting a homerun to center field.
After a scoreless second inning, the Hillcats loaded the bases in the third and
Rylee DeLozier drew a walk to cut the deficit to just one. However, the Hillcats were unable to tie the game.
The Hillcats took advantage of a throwing error to plate two runs and take a 4-3 lead.
St. Mary's would tie the game in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly, but the Hillcats would respond in the bottom half of the inning.
After a lead-off single by
Sierra Skaggs,
Taylor Malett pinch ran and stole second. Malett then moved to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch to but Rogers State back in front for good.
Morales then came in to pitch the final two innings, striking out three more to pick up the save.
Bailey Killough earned the win, allowing four runs, three earned in five innings.
Rogers State will return to action on Tuesday, taking on Oklahoma Christian on the road for a Heartland Conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. in Oklahoma City.
