WICHITA, Kan. – The Rogers State Women's Basketball team's comeback bid fell short Thursday night on the road at Newman, falling 58-52 at the Fugate Gymnasium.
The Hillcats started their comeback after going down by 10 points with four minutes remaining in the third quarter. Rogers State used a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to one before the end of the quarter, but Newman hit a three to take a four-point lead into the fourth quarter.
Newman would extend the lead back to seven points before
Desiree Nelson and
Azaria Floyd hit three pointers to cut the deficit to one.
Lauren Schuldt gave the Hillcats the lead with a layup with three minutes remaining in the game.
However, the lead was short lived as the hosts took the lead back and went on a 7-0 run to close out the game.
Floyd led the Hillcats in scoring, finishing with 11 points. She also had five rebounds.
Schuldt and
Ke'Aunna Johnson each had nine points. Schuldt led RSU with seven rebounds and two blocks, while Johnson finished with six rebounds.
Alicia Brown led the Hillcats with five assists and two steals.
Rogers State will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, traveling to Oklahoma Christian. Tip off is set for 1 p.m. in Oklahoma City.
