Baseball Picks Up Big Win Over East Central In Non-Conference Clash

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State Baseball team picked up a 10-0 victory over East Central University Monday afternoon at the Diamond Sports Complex.
 
The Hillcats jumped out to an early lead, as Nick Follett singled through the left side to score Zack Mann and Christian Merriwether.
 
Rogers State continued to pile the runs on in the second inning, plating five more to go up 7-0. Mann started the scoring, doubling down the right field line as Brendan Griffith and Christopher Ford scored.
 
Follett then drove in two more runs, scoring Mann and Merriwether again with a single to center field.
 
Blake Chiaramonte capped off the scoring in the inning with a single up the middle to bring around Grant Farris.
 
The Hillcats were held scoreless in the third and fourth innings, but would go on to score one run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
 
Merriwether singled home Griffith in the fifth and Griffin Keller singled home Patrick Reynier in the sixth. Follett scored Mann on a groundout to cap the scoring.
 
Jackson Simonsgaard picked up the win in relief, tossing four innings of scoreless baseball with five strikeouts while allowing just three hits.
 
Preston Whitten made his season debut, starting the game and doing two innings. Whitten allowed one hit and a walk with one strikeout.
 
Rogers State will now set its sights on Colorado Christian, as the Hillcats travel to Colorado Springs for a three-game series to start an 11-game road swing. The Hillcats will open up with a doubleheader on Friday starting at noon.
