Rogers State Softball Sweeps Through Conway Classic

CONWAY, Ark.Andrea Morales threw a no-hitter and a one-hitter to lead the way for the Rogers State Softball program as they swept through the Conway Classic with a 4-0 record over the weekend.
 
Morales threw a no-hitter to start the weekend as the Hillcats powered their way past Central Missouri 10-0. Morales tossed six innings in the run-rule victory, allowing just one walk while striking out seven.
 
Mikayla Waggnor, Sierra Skaggs and Rylee DeLozier all had two hits in the victory. Skaggs and Abigail Taylor both drove in two runs at the plate. The Hillcats combined for 10 hits and also drew eight walks.
 
In game two of the weekend, the Hillcats needed extra innings as Rogers State defeated Nebraska-Kearney 12-11 in nine innings.
 
With runners placed on second to begin both of the extra innings, both teams capitalized to score the runner in the eight and ninth innings. However, the Hillcats were able to continue threatening in the ninth inning, loading the bases before DeLozier drew a game-winning walk.
 
Tailee Reding had a three-hit performance, while Waggnor and Danelle Day each had two hits. Day led the way with four RBIs in the game, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two walks.
 
Both teams finished with 10 hits, but the Hillcats had 13 walks in the game while giving up just two to the Lopers.
 
In game one on Sunday, the Hillcats used the homerun to help propel a come-from-behind victory as Rogers State defeated Northwest Missouri State 7-4.
 
Trailing 4-1, Day homered to cut the deficit to two in the third. In the fourth inning, Katelyn Gamble made it a one-run game by scoring on a wild pitch.
 
However, the Hillcats didn't take the lead until Day hit a two-RBI single to right in the sixth inning, scoring Reding and Gamble. Two batters later, Skaggs hit a two-run homerun to put the Hillcats up by three.
 
Rogers State capped off the weekend with a 4-0 victory over Fort Hays State in game two on Sunday, as Morales tossed a one-hitter for the victory.
 
Morales finished with 12 strikeouts, allowing one hit and a walk over seven innings of work.
 
Taylor Santistevan reached on a sacrifice bunt that allowed Faren Walker to score the first run of the game in the fourth inning.
 
With the bases loaded in the fifth, DeLozier grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed Day to score. Santistevan then stepped up to single home Taylor.
 
Day capped off the game with a homerun to left field.
 
Rogers State will now set their sights on two more matchups with Central Missouri, as the Hillcats host the Jennies on Wednesday at the Diamond Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
