CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State Women's Soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw Sunday afternoon against No. 7 ranked Central Missouri at Soldier Field.
On a rainy and windy day, the Hillcats (4-4-2, 1-1-1 MIAA) outplayed the MIAA-leading Jennies (8-1-1, 2-0-1 MIAA) for much of the first half and then held off a strong push from the visitors in the second half and overtime to earn a point in the conference standings.
With the scoreless draw, the Hillcats picked up their second-consecutive shutout and fifth of the season. It was the second time
ReVella Fisher has earned a 110-minute cleansheet.
The Hillcats also held Central Missouri scoreless for only the second time this season, as the Jennies came in to Sunday's game averaging 3.0 goals per contest.
Through the first 45 minutes, the Hillcats had 62 percent of the possession and outshot the Jennies 10-6.
Hannah Mushisky had one of the best scoring chances for the Hillcats, working free at the 6-yard box to get a header on target, only to be denied by Lindsey Johnson in the seventh minute.
Mushisky would have another effort saved in the 20
th minute, while
Janell Hernandez and
Kori Watters each had two shots on target in the first half stopped by Johnson.
At the other end of the pitch,
ReVella Fisher was tested three times in the first half, but came up big for the Hillcats in the final 20 minutes of regulation.
Maria Wilder had a strong effort from just outside the penalty area denied by Fisher, who then had to make a close-range save on Kassie Newsom on the rebound, pushing it wide for a corner kick.
On the ensuing corner, Skylar Drum worked free to get a shot on target from the 6-yard box, but Fisher denied the effort with a crucial save.
Over the final two minutes of regulation, Fisher would be tested again, stopping three strong efforts from around the edge of the penalty area to help force overtime.
In the first overtime, Central Missouri would have the only quality scoring chance, as Makayla Toth had an effort from the right side of the 6-yard box stopped by Fisher.
In the second overtime, it was the Hillcats who produced the best look at breaking the tie, but
Laurelle Theodore's effort from the right edge of the penalty area to the lower right corner was stopped by Johnson.
Fisher finished with 10 saves in the game, while Johsnon had eight saves for the visitors.
Rogers State will return to action on Friday, as the Hillcats welcome in Emporia State University for the third of four-straight MIAA home games. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Soldier Field.
