LUBBOCK, Texas – The Rogers State University Women's Basketball dropped it's first road contest of the conference schedule on Thursday night, falling to Lubbock Christian 71-50 at the Rip Griffin Center.
The Hillcats (8-8, 1-2 Heartland) took an early lead from six quick points by
Lauren Schuldt inside the first two minutes.
However, a 12-4 run by the Lady Chaps (13-4, 3-0) over the remainder of the first quarter saw Rogers State trailing by five after 10 minutes and the Hillcats were unable to erase the deficit.
After runs by both teams in the early part of the second half, the Lady Chaps would use another big run, 10-2, to close the half to pull away by double figures at the break.
Desiree Nelson would get hot for the Hillcats from behind the arc in the second half as she hit five straight three pointers to lead the way for Rogers State in scoring with 15 points. Nelson's three pointers and points matched season highs for the senior guard.
Schuldt would finish with 11 points for the game and also had six rebounds and a block.
The Hillcats were outrebounded 34-14 in the contest and the hosts were perfect at the free-throw line, going 11-for-11, while Rogers State was just 3-for-9.
Lindsey Byfield had eight points and
Alicia Brown finished with six points.
Ke'Aunna Johnson led the Hillcats off the bench with four points and three rebounds.
Rogers State will return home for Saturday's game as the Hillcats look to rebound against St. Edward's (9-8, 1-2). Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. at the Claremore Expo Center.
