LUBBOCK, Texas – Rogers State Men's Basketball's comeback bid fell short Thursday night as the Hillcats fell to Lubbock Christian 80-75 at the Rip Griffin Center in Heartland Conference play.
After trailing by as many as nine points, the Hillcats (13-5, 2-2 Heartland) erased the Chaparrals' (12-5, 3-2) advantage and took the lead from Lubbock Cristian midway through the second half.
However, Lubbock Christian answered back and extended the lead eight points, with the Hillcats only able to trim the deficit as close as two in the final few minutes of the contest.
Brewster Peacock led the way for the Hillcats as the sophomore guard was 5-for-8 from the field with four made three pointers. Peacock also had two assists and two rebounds in 28 minutes.
Tate Turner was also 5-for-8 from the field with a three pointer, finishing with 13 points. Turner had three rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Tavian Davis joined Peacock and Turner in double figures with 10 points.
The Hillcats led the hosts in shooting, as Rogers State shot 53 percent from the field while Lubbock Christian shot 52 percent. Both teams went 9-for-20 from behind the arc.
Rogers State was outrebounded 27-21 in the contest. The Hillcats were also just 12-for-19 from the free-throw line while Lubbock Christian was 19 -for-27.
Chase Littlejohn and
Jordan Johnson each finished with seven points off the bench for the Hillcats.
Saint Hilaire led the way for the for Rogers State on the glass, finishing with eight rebounds. Hilaire also had eight points and a block.
Rogers State will look to rebound on Saturday as the Hillcats host No. 4 St. Edward's. Tip off is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Claremore Expo Center.
