LAREDO, Texas – The Rogers State women's soccer team stayed unbeaten in Heartland Conference action with a dominating 3-0 win over Texas A&M International on Saturday (Sept. 22) at the TAMIU Soccer Field.
With the victory, the Hillcats moved to 3-0-1 in the Heartland this year and increased their unbeaten streak in league action to 12-straight games dating back to the 2017 season. The navy and red are 6-1-1 overall this season.
The navy and red posted two first-half goals and netted a third tally in the second half to cruise to the 3-0 league road win. The Hillcats ended their four-game road trip to start league action at 3-0-1.
Senior forward
BreAnn Tolleson tallied the game-winning goal in the 18th minute to give RSU the early 1-0 advantage. Senior captain
Melissa Cardenas had the assist on the goal.
In the 27th minute, sophomore
Maggie Brown doubled the score to 2-0 with her second goal of the season and
Madison Murray earned the assist in only her second game back this year after returning from injury.
Freshman
Kori Watters added the final RSU goal in the 63rd minute for the final 3-0 score.
Taylor Sargent, a senior goalkeeper from The Colony, Texas, made three saves in her sixth shutout this season. She hasn't allowed a goal in 407 minutes of action and has totaled four straight shutouts. Sargent moved to 6-1-1 this season. For her two-year career at RSU, she has 17 shutouts.
RSU held a 9-3 edge in shots on goal and also outshot the Dustdevils 19-11 in the 90 minutes. Watters led the navy and red with five shots. Cardenas added four shots.
