Hillcats Cruise in 3-0 Win over Eagles

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Rogers State women's soccer team cruised to a 3-0 win at Oklahoma Christian on Saturday (Sept. 15) at Eagle Soccer Field to move to 2-0 in Heartland Conference play.
 
The Hillcats (5-1, 2-0 Heartland) scored in the first half via a penalty kick and added two more goals early in the second half to roll to the 3-0 victory and open league play 2-0 after the first week.
 
Senior defender Melissa Cardenas put the Hillcats up 1-0 in the 15th minute of the game with a penalty kick goal.
 
In the second half, Kori Watters posted her first career goal as she knocked in a rebounded shot by Maggie Brown. Brown picked up the assist on the goal as the navy and red went up 2-0 in the 48th minute.
 
The final RSU tally came in the 53rd minute when sophomore Hannah Mushisky scored from six yards, her team-leading third goal of the season, for a 3-0 advantage. Brown sent in the cross to earn her second assist of the game.
 
The Hillcats dominated in the road league game, holding a 31-8 advantage in shots, including a 13-4 edge in shots on goal. The shots came from all over with 15 Hillcats totaling shots.
 
RSU's defense allowed only four shots on goal and eight total shots.
 
Senior goalkeeper Taylor Sargent made four saves to keep the shutout and moved to 5-1 on the season. The shutout was her fourth of the season and 15th in her two-year career.
 
The contest was a physical affair with six yellow cards and one red card by Oklahoma Christian. The Eagles played with 10 players for the final 21 minutes after a red in the 69th minute.
 
The Hillcats continue road league play next Thursday at St. Mary's at 12 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas.
