RSU Softball's League Title Hopes Take Hit with 2 Losses at OC

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Rogers State softball team's Heartland Conference championship chance took a big hit with two losses at Oklahoma Christian on Friday (April 27) at Tom Health Field. The Hillcat offense couldn't get going in 5-0 and 4-1 defeats as the navy and red finished with only four hits in the two games.

RSU (35-17, 16-11 Heartland) still has an outside chance of capturing a share of the Heartland Conference championship as four teams are still alive in the race going into the final day of the regular season. Along with getting a win tomorrow against OC, the Cats need St. Mary's to drop both of its games against rival St. Edward's plus need a loss by Texas A&M International against Lubbock Christian for the Hillcats to tie with St. Mary's for the league title.

OC 5, RSU 0

The Hillcats totaled only one hit in the first game as OC pitchers Kaylie Upton and Madison Hagood combined for the one-hitter with four strikeouts in 7.0 innings.

OC plated two runs in the third inning on a double down the line, and the Eagles made it 4-0 with two more tallies in the fourth inning. A single scored the first run and a sacrifice fly upped the score to 4-0 for OC. The final run scored in the fifth on an RBI double for the 5-0 final margin.

Sierra Skaggs registered the only hit of game one for RSU with a single in the seventh inning.

Senior Alex Brake pitched 6.0 innings with three strikeouts and five runs allowed on nine hits. She dropped to 14-6 on the season.

OC 4, RSU 1

The RSU offense continued its tough day with only three hits in the 4-1 nightcap loss.

OC's Hagood pitched the complete 7.0 innings with only three hits allowed. She posted five strikeouts in the victory with only one run scored.

Taylor Santistevan drove in the navy and red's only run with a double to right field to bring home Rylee DeLozier for a 2-1 score in the third inning.

The Eagles tallied their four runs in the second, fifth and sixth innings. A double to center in the second inning put the host team up 2-0. After the Cats sliced the deficit in half to 2-1, OC totaled the final two runs in the game. The Eagles made it 3-1 with a single in the fifth and added the final run with a sac fly in the sixth for the 4-1 score.

Santistevan finished 1-for-3 with one RBI. Skaggs and Katelyn Gamble added the other two hits.

Freshman Andrea Morales started in the circle in game two, going 6.0 innings with three earned runs given up on eight hits. She fell to 12-7 on the season.

The Hillcats and Eagles end the three-game series on Saturday (April 28) with one game at 1 p.m. in Oklahoma City. Video streaming and live stats will be available.
