CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State baseball team closed out a four-game series with Randall by taking two from the Saints on Saturday (Feb. 3) at the Diamond Sports Complex. RSU rolled to victories by the scores of 14-0 and 14-2 to move to 4-0 on the season.
RSU 14, Randall 0
The Hillcats posted nine runs in the first inning of game one and cruised to an easy 14-0 victory.
RSU totaled eight hits in the first inning to put up the nine runs.
Blake Chiaramonte started the scoring with an RBI single to plate
Matt Seubert. The Cats used five RBI singles in the first inning to score runs.
Brooks Douglass plated two runs with his single up the middle to make it 4-0.
Chris Nakashima,
Bradley Degnan and Chiaramonte for the second time all drove in runs with singles, and
Grant Farris brought home one run with a double to right center.
The navy and red added two runs in the fourth and three more runs in the sixth for the 14-0 final score.
Senior
Spencer Bivens made his first start of 2018 after winning a team-high eight games in 2017. He earned his first win of the season, going 5.0 innings with three strikeouts and only four hits allowed.
Brock Knoten and
Hunter Johnson each pitched one inning and neither allowed a hit to finish out the game.
Zack Mann finished 3-for-4 with two RBI at the plate. Eight other Hillcats totaled hits in the game. Chiaramonte, Farris, Nakashima and Douglass all totaled two hits. RSU finished with 15 hits in game one.
RSU 14, Randall 2
In the final game of the series, RSU pulled away with runs in all six of its times up to bat for the 14-2 win.
RSU started with three runs in the first as Farris drove in the first two with a double down the line. Douglass singled up the middle to extend the lead to 3-0 after one inning.
The Saints stayed close with the Cats in the second inning, scoring two runs for a 3-2 score. A balk allowed one run to score, and RU singled to the gap in right, its only hit of the game, to bring in another run for the 3-2 margin.
The navy and red responded with one run in the bottom half of the second on a Mann sacrifice fly, and then RSU totaled two runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings to go in front, 10-2. Four runs in the sixth made it 14-2 and ended the game after seven innings due to the run rule.
RSU pitching limited the Saints to only one hit all game.
AJ Deason started and went the first 4.0 innings with seven strikeouts and allowed the one hit.
Landon Nealon pitched two shutout innings, and
Sean Robinson came in for one inning. The trio combined for 10 strikeouts.
The Cats finished with 18 hits with 10 players registering hits.
Patrick Reynier went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Douglass was 3-for-5 with one RBI. Garris posted a 2-for-4 performance with four RBI.
