RSU Baseball Takes 2 to Start 3-Game Series at Drury

OZARK, Mo. – The Rogers State baseball team opened a three-game series at Drury with a doubleheader sweep of the Panthers on Sunday (Feb. 25) at US Baseball Park. The Hillcats won the two games by the score of 14-5 and 4-2.

The Hillcats (6-2) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in game one and never looked back in a dominating 14-5 victory. RSU totaled one run in the first and poured on four runs in the third before one more run in the fifth for an early 6-0 score. The Cats then plated eight runs in the last two innings for the easy win.
 
Blake Chiaramonte started the scoring with a RBI double to right in the first inning. RSU added four runs in the third for a 5-0 score. Brendan Griffin drove in two runs with a single up the middle, and two more runs scored on a Grant Farris double down the line.
 
The Panthers chipped away at the margin and trailed by only two at 6-4 in the seventh.
 
Matt Seubert knocked out a three-run homer in the eighth inning to up the score to 9-4. And in the ninth, RSU added runs on two singles, a double and an error for a 14-4 score. Drury plated one run in the ninth for the final 14-5 RSU advantage.
 
Spencer Bivens started on the mound and went 5.1 innings with four hits and one run earned to pick up the win, moving to 2-1 on the season. He registered five strikeouts.
 
Farris finished at 3-for-5 at the plate with four RBI in game one. Christopher Ford went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
RSU 4, DU 2
The navy and red scored early and never trailed in game two in a 4-2 victory to sweep the doubleheader.
 
Farris opened the scoring in the nightcap with a solo home run in the second inning. The lead doubled to 2-0 in the fifth on a Chiaramonte infield single that plated Seubert.
 
After a run from Drury, Seubert drove in two runs with a double to left for a 4-1 score in the sixth inning. DU put up one run in the eighth for the 4-2 final score.
 
Seubert finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored in game two. The Hillcats totaled 14 hits.
 
AJ Deason started in the nightcap, going 4.2 innings and allowing only three hits and one run. Preston Whitten came in for 3.0 innings and gave up two hits. Joey Lucas got one out, and Sean Robinson pitched the ninth inning, earning the save.
 
The Hillcats and Panthers conclude the three-game series on Monday (Feb. 26) at 4 p.m. at US Baseball Park. Live stats will be available.
