CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's basketball team ended its three-game losing streak with a dominating 85-47 win over Randall on Friday (Dec. 14) at the Claremore Expo Center. The Hillcats (4-6) pulled away with a 25-7 scoring advantage in the second quarter en route to the home victory.
With the navy and red up 17-12 after one quarter, RSU opened up a 42-19 halftime margin with a dominating second quarter. The Saints cut the deficit to 20-16 on a jumper with 8:09 left, but the Cats ended the period with a 22-3 spurt in the rest of the quarter to open up the large halftime edge.
The run started with baskets by four different Hillcats.
Lindsey Byfield,
Lilly Garner,
Lauren Schuldt and
Alicia Brown hit jumpers to extend the score to 28-16 with 5:59 left before the break. The margin grew to 21 points on a Byfield layup with 30 seconds remaining. And
Ke'Aunna Johnson added the final points of the period for the 42-19 halftime score.
The Hillcats controlled the second half en route to the 85-47 win.
Schuldt finished with a career-high 26 points and pulled down nine rebounds to just miss a double-double. She added three blocks and a steal. Byfield went for 13 points and six rebounds. Brown tallied 10 points and eight rebounds.
RSU shot 48.7 percent (37-76) from the field in the game and held a 43-27 advantage in rebounds. The Cats committed only 12 turnovers in the dominating win.
Randall was led in scoring by Mikayla Emarthle and Kenzie Ezekiel with 10 points apiece. The Saints shot 40.8 percent (20-49), but registered 26 turnovers.
