SHAWNEE, Okla. – Senior
Lindsey Byfield hit a late 3-pointer to propel the Rogers State women's basketball team to a 78-74 victory over Oklahoma Baptist as the navy and red ended the game on a 10-0 run on Saturday (Nov. 24) afternoon at the Noble Complex.
Byfield sank a pull up 3-pointer to give RSU a 76-74 edge with 27 seconds left in the contest. The Hillcat defense, which held the Bison scoreless in the final 2:59 of the contest, got a stop and
Lauren Schuldt made two free throws with 14 seconds left to close out OBU.
The Hillcats (3-3) finished the game on a 10-0 spurt. After OBU went up 74-68 with 2:59 left, Schuldt pulled RSU to within four with a layup at the 2:45 mark. Byfield made it a one-point game with a three-point play with 1:14 remaining. She was fouled on a driving layup and converted the free throw for the 74-73 score to set up the game-winning 3-pointer in the final 27 seconds.
Schuldt posted a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds and blocked four shots. Nelson added 14 points, hitting four 3-pointers. Jackson totaled 13 points, and
Alicia Brown finished with 11 points.
In the second half, RSU shot 56.7 percent (17-30) from the field, including 54.6 percent (6-11) from 3. For the game, the Hillcats finished at 50 percent (29-58) and 40 percent (8-20) from 3.
Autumn Avina went for a game-high 28 points for the Bison. Mikayla Shulanberger tallied 16 points, and Charissa Price totaled 15 points.
RSU's defense in the second half held OBU to 37.8 percent (14-37) shooting from the floor. The Bison finished at 43.9 percent (25-57) for the game from the field.
The Hillcats continue their three-game road trip at Drury on Thursday (Nov. 29) at 6 p.m. in Springfield, Mo.
