Hillcats Return to Winning Ways with 1-0 Victory over OC

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's soccer team got back on track with a 1-0 win over Oklahoma Christian on Thursday (Oct. 4) at Soldier Field.

The Hillcats (7-3-1, 4-2-1 Heartland Conference) dominated during the 90 minutes with a 32-2 advantage in shots, including a 16-2 edge in shots on goal.

Freshman Kori Watters tallied the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute of action. Sophomore midfielder Bria Salazar saw her shot knock off the crossbar, and Watters was there to put in the rebound in front of the goal for the 1-0 lead. Salazar got the assist on the tally.

The Eagles (0-10, 0-7 Heartland) registered the first shot of the game in the first minute, but didn't post another shot until the final minutes, going nearly 88 minutes between attempts. Both shots, however, were on target.

Senior goalkeeper Taylor Sargent finished with her seventh shutout of the season and 18th in her career as she made two saves in 90 minutes. The Colony, Texas native moved to 7-3-1 on the season.

RSU totaled 32 shots in the game with the 16 shots on goal. In the first half, the navy and red tallied 15 shots, and added 17 more shots in the second half. Sophomore Hannah Mushisky registered a game-high seven shots and three shots on goal. Maggie Brown added six shots. RSU nearly took a 1-0 advantage in the first half, but Mushisky's shot was cleared by the OC defense just before it crossed the goal line.

OC's goalkeeper Addison Milner posted 15 saves in the 90 minutes with the one goal allowed.

The Hillcats end their four-game homestand on Saturday (Oct. 6) against Newman at Soldier Field. Coverage will be available on the Hillcat Network.
