Hillcats Sweep Bacone in Home Doubleheader

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State baseball team took two from Bacone in a doubleheader on Sunday (April 23) at the Diamond Sports Complex. The Hillcats won game one, 3-1, and blanked the Warriors, 8-0, in game two.

The Hillcats used a three-run sixth inning to pull away for the 3-1 victory in the first game of the doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.
 
RSU plated all three runs without totaling a hit in the inning. Bradley Degnan started the inning by reaching after being hit by a pitch. Runners advanced to the corners due to an error on a fielder's choice by the Warriors' pitcher, and Degnan put the Cats up 1-0 when he scored on a wild pitch. Ismeal Orozco drove in the second run for a 2-0 score on a groundout to the shortstop. The navy and red scored the final run of the inning on a sac fly to center for the 3-0 margin.
 
Tim Luce pitched six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and only 77 pitches thrown. Rusty Huber came in for the save, this 11th of the season, in the seventh inning.
 
Miguel went 2-for-3 with one run scored.

The Hillcat offense got going in game two as the navy and red won, 8-0, over the Warriors.
 
RSU totaled all eight of its runs in the first four innings. Three runs scored in the first inning starting with an RBI single by Jason Marley for a 1-0 edge. After the bases loaded up, Derek Brumble knocked in two runs with a single to left to plate Marley and Degnan for a 3-0 lead.
 
Degnan increased the margin to 4-0 with a sac fly to center to allow Sam Casinelli to tag up from third base.
 
The runs continued in the third with one on a double down the line from Brumble to score Orozco and up the advantage to 5-0.
 
RSU kept the offense going with three runs in the fourth inning to move the margin to 8-0. Sam Davison started the scoring with an RBI single to plate Matt Seubert. Miguel drove in Davison with a groundout, and the final run scored on a Marley triple to the gap in right to score Degnan.
 
The RSU pitching staff was just as strong as in game one in a two-hit seven inning shutout performance. Spencer Bivens moved to 8-2 on the season with only two hits allowed in 5.0 innings with three strikeouts. Landon Nealon went the final 2.0 innings and totaled three strikeouts.
 
Brumble finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBI. Marley went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored.
 
The Hillcats travel to Southern Nazarene on Tuesday (April 25) for the final nonconference contest of the regular season. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. in Bethany, Okla. Video and live stats will be available for the game.
