CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State swept Randall University Friday afternoon in a doubleheader at the Diamond Sports Complex with a 16-0 victory in seven innings in game one and run ruled the Saints 16-2 in game two.
Right fielder
Bradley Degnan continued his hot start in the navy and red going 8-for-9 at the plate with three doubles, two home runs and seven runs batted in two games. In his first four games as a Hillcat, the Woodside, Calif. native has hit .632 with five home runs and 16 RBI.
GAME ONE
The Hillcats scored early and often in the first game as Randall starter Weston Bates lasted just three and one-third innings allowing 10 runs, nine earned, on seven hits and walking five batters.
RSU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as
Brooks Douglass scored from third on a RBI fielder's choice by
Chris Miguel. A pitch in the dirt on ball four sent
Ismael Orozco to first on a walk but scored Miguel on the wild pitch from third.
Douglass plated two on a double to left center in the second inning to put the Hillcats up 4-0. RSU wasn't finished as
Matt Seubert scored
Jordan Garr on a ground out to shortstop. Degnan doubled to left center scoring Douglass from third as the Hillcats took a 6-0 lead.
After a scoreless third inning, Degnan hit a two-run shot to right field with one out to start the fourth. The Hillcats stretched the lead to 11-0 three batters later as
Sam Davison blasted a shot to left field.
Degnan claimed his fourth RBI of the game in the bottom of the fifth with a double to right field as the Hillcats posted four runs before adding another run in the sixth for a 16-0 run-rule victory in seven innings.
Devin Zakar earned the victory in his first start as a Hillcat going five innings with one walk issued and one hit allowed. The Honolulu, Hawaii struck out eight Saints batters.
Andrew Lucio saw two innings in relief striking out three and allowing two hits.
Bates (0-1) took the loss for the Saints in his second start of the season as Randall pitchers allowed 16 hits to the Hillcats.
Degnan went 4-for-4 with four RBI with a walk while
Sam Davison went 2-for-2 with four RBI and a walk.
Ismael Orozco drew two walks going 1-for-3 in the fifth spot of the lineup.
GAME TWO
RSU posted six runs in the home half of the first inning started with a RBI triple by
Matt Seubert. Degnan followed with a single to center field scoring Seubert and three batters later
Jason Marley single to right-center to put the Hillcats up 3-0 with one out. A bases loaded wild pitch scored Orozco and Douglass singled through the left side of the infield to scored two for a 6-0 RSU lead.
RU catcher JW Moore homered off the scoreboard in left field to cut into the Hillcat lead at 6-1 in the top of the second. Degnan led off the bottom half of the inning with a double and scored on a single by Davison to push RSU up 7-1.
In the third inning the Hillcats tallied five runs on a two-RBI double by
Chris Miguel, a RBI double by
Jason Marley and a Davison RBI double through the left side.
Leading 12-0, RSU added another run in the home half of the fourth inning on a Degnan solo shot to right center.
The Hillcats added three more runs in the sixth on RBI from Degnan, Orozco and Marley to put the Hillcats up 16-1.
Tyler Spoon singled up the middle with one out and scored on a fielding error by the Hillcats as RSU swept the series with the Saints with a 16-2 victory.
Degnan and Marley went 4-for-5 with three RBI in game two. Miguel totaled two RBI hitting 2-for-3 with a walk. RSU drew five walks as a team including two by
Sam Davison as the first baseman went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Josh Eclavea earned the victory in his first start of the season allowing one earned run on one hit and struck out six. Jay Frazier (0-1) earned the loss in three innings giving up 12 earned runs on 12 hits and walking four with one strikeout.
Randall (0-7) allowed 35 hits in Friday's doubleheader including eight doubles as the Hillcats combined for a team batting average of .493.
Rogers State (4-0) welcomes Colorado Christian to the Diamond Sports Complex on Friday, February 10 for the start of a three game series with the Cougars.
