DALLAS, Texas – Rogers State women's soccer fell, 2-0, at Dallas Baptist University in the Heartland Conference Championship on Saturday (Nov. 4) afternoon at Patriot Field. The Hillcats dropped to 13-4-3 on the season.
Host DBU (15-3-2) tallied the first goal of the game as the Patriots' Leah Draper hit a shot from just outside the box and over goalkeeper Taylor Sargent for a 1-0 score in the 10th minute.
Early in the second half, the Patriot lead increased to 2-0 after a shot bounced off a few players in front and into the goal for an own goal in the 49th minute.
For the contest, DBU held a 12-3 edge in shots, including a 7-1 margin in shots on goal. The Hillcats tallied their first shot in the second half. The first half saw the Patriots total 10 shots to zero from RSU.
The Cats posted their first shot of the game in the 55th minute when Melissa Cardenas fired an attempt that was wide. RSU's only shot on goal occurred in the 75th minute on an attempt from Madison Murray.
Taylor Sargent registered five saves in 90 minutes and fell to 13-4-3 on the season.
Amanda Tewes, Hannah Mushisky and Cardenas were named to the Heartland Conference All-Tournament Team. The Hillcats totaled three selections on the 11-player team.
The Hillcats put together the best defensive season in school history. RSU totaled a school record 11 shutouts and allowed the least amount of goals ever at 12 for the whole season of 20 games.
RSU finished 13-4-3 this season and made one of the biggest turnarounds in Heartland Conference history. The 13 wins are the most for the Hillcats since 15 wins in 2009 and the most since the navy and red joined the Heartland Conference.
