CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's soccer team ended nonconference play with a 16-0 win over Manhattan Christian on Monday (Oct. 9) at Soldier Field. The 16 goals were two away from the school record and ranked second best in school history.
Daisy Cardona and
Madison Murray each registered hat tricks in the contest and nine Hillcats scored.
Senior forward
Daisy Cardona tallied the first two goals of the game. She scored in the second minute and added another goal in the eighth minute for a 2-0 lead.
The Hillcats scored seven goals in 10 minutes to stretch the lead to 9-0.
BreAnn Tolleson made it 3-0 in the 12th minute, and
Jordan Downing added a goal in the 15th minute for a 4-0 score. Less than one minute later,
Hannah Mushisky tallied a goal, and
Suvannah Melton upped the advantage to 6-0 in the 19th minute. The stretch of goals ended with
Janell Hernandez and
Alexis Pryor totaling scores less than 30 seconds apart in the 21st minute for a 9-0 edge.
Murray added her second goal in the 36th minute, and
Marlaina Trahant got in on the scoring with a goal in the 42nd minute for a 11-0 score at halftime.
RSU tallied five goals in a shortened second half due to lightning and thunderstorms in the area. Cardona got her third goal to start the second half in the 48th minute. A few minutes later in the 52nd minute, Tolleson posted her second goal of the game for a 13-0 advantage.
Murray matched Cardona with her third goal in the 58th minute for a 14-0 score. The Hillcats finished with tallies from Pryor and Melton for the 16-0 final score.
For the game, RSU held a 61-0 margin in shots, including 41 shots on goal. Manhattan Christian's goalkeeper Monica Garcia totaled 25 saves.
A total of 23 Hillcats saw action in the 71 minutes. Goalkeeper
Taylor Sargent was the only Cat to play the complete 71 minutes as she earned the shutout win.
The 16 goals match the second-most goals in school history. The school record for goals is 18 against Bacone College on Aug. 31, 2009. On Oct. 11, 2007, the Cats posted 16 goals against Ozark Christian to rank second, a mark tied in today's game.
