Five Hillcats Score in 6-0 Win over Randall

CLAREMORE, Okla.Suvannah Melton tallied a two-goal performance as the Rogers State women's soccer team scored three times in each half of a 6-0 victory over Randall University Monday afternoon at Soldier Field.

The Hillcats had five different players post a goal in the win that extends their home winning streak to three games to start the 2016 season. Melton had a four-point effort, while Addy Pritchard and Alexis Pryor added three points each with a goal and an assist in the win.

Marlaina Trahant opened the scoring taking the opening kick right down the field and putting the first shot over the head of the Saints' goalkeeper for a 1-0 advantage just 17 seconds into the match. The goal goes down as the fastest in 10 years of RSU women's soccer history, 14 seconds quicker than Tara Garrett's goal Oct. 5, 2012 against Mid-America Christian.

The score remained unchanged for the next 38 minutes despite the Hillcats continuing to increase the pressure on the Randall goal as they finished the match with a 21-2 advantage in shots on goal. Melton made easy work of her first goal in the RSU navy and red putting home a tap in at the 38:38 mark. Pryor net her second goal of the season with just one second remaining in the opening half launching a long shot into the back corner as the Cats took a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Melton and RSU wasted no time in adding to the lead in the second half as the junior transfer ripped a shot from 30 yards into the top corner in the 48th minute. Pritchard recorded her first collegiate goal in the 68th minute as the sophomore defender from Claremore, Oklahoma headed a shot off a Jasmine Guerra corner on goal before firing her own rebound under the keeper pushing the lead to 5-0.

Paige Pontarolo closed the scoring for the Hillcats blasting a one-touch shot into the exact same tight corner as Melton as the margin swelled to 6-0 before the final whistle.

Goalkeeper Tayler Stover picked up her second shutout of the year on a relatively quiet contest where she made just two saves and was not tested for much of the afternoon.

The Hillcats (3-1 overall) return to Heartland Conference play during a quick Texas road swing starting Sept. 15 in San Antonio, Texas against unbeaten St. Mary's.
