CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State baseball team could not hold back the nationally-ranked offense of Lubbock Christian dropping the rubber match, 9-3, at the Diamond Sports Complex Saturday afternoon.
The No. 7-ranked Chaps claimed the weekend series scoring six times in a two-inning stretch against starter
Tyler Kruse after the junior retired the first six batters. A lead-off home run in the third opened a four-run frame and LCU tacked on two in the fourth for a 6-0 edge.
The Hillcats broke onto the scoresheet in the fourth as
Colton Crocker opened on a single into left and moved to third on
Caleb Kohlmeyer's single into right center. The redshirt junior scored on the next batter as
Chris Miguel launched a sacrifice fly to the wall in left cutting the margin to 6-1.
LCU added three runs in the seventh to break the game open before RSU got a single by Miguel to start the bottom of the seventh and
Ismael Orozco followed with a single.
Samuel Davison pulled a single through the infield plating Miguel for a 9-2 contest.
Garrett Hall opened the eighth drawing a walk and the sophomore moved to second on a passed ball before scampering to third on a wild pitch. Pinch hitter
Zack Ashford came through hitting an RBI single into left for the final score of 9-3.
All three RSU pitchers retired the Chaps in order in the first two innings of work, but ran into trouble working past that as the visitors scored all nine runs from that point forward against Kruse and reliever
Josh Eclavea.
Orozco led the RSU offense with two of the team's eight hits in the game.
The Hillcats (23-19 overall, 9-12 HC) hit the road for a non-conference matchup with the Panthers of Drury Tuesday, April 26 in a makeup date scheduled for 3 p.m. in Springfield, Missouri.
