Hillcats Jump on Rattlers Early in 10-7 Win

San Antonio, Texas – The Rogers State baseball team scored seven runs in the first three innings en route to a 10-7 win over St. Mary's on Saturday in game one of a three-game series at Dickson Stadium.  
 
The Hillcats started with three runs in the first inning. Cesar Rodriguez plated the first two runs with a double down the line for a 2-0 edge. Caleb Kohlmeyer and Jordan Garr scored after reaching on a walk and single, respectively. Chris Miguel upped the lead to 3-0 with a single through the infield to bring in Rodriguez.
 
In the third inning, RSU added four more runs for the early 7-0 advantage. Miguel continued his strong showing with a two-RBI double to score Rodriguez and Ismael Orozco. The final two runs of the inning scored via an error and a double play with runners on first and third.
 
The host Rattlers responded with six runs in the bottom of the third inning to close to within one run at 7-6. StMU used four straight singles and a triple to center field to score its six runs.
 
Orozco gave the Hillcats a little breathing room with an RBI single up the middle for an 8-6 score.
 
StMU came right back with a solo home run to again pull to within one run at 8-7. The homer was the final run for the Rattlers as RSU relievers Landon Nealon and Rusty Huber came in to shut down the StMU lineup. In the final four innings, the Rattlers tallied only one run.
 
The Hillcats added two late runs for the 10-7 victory.
 
Miguel had a strong showing finishing 4-for-5 with four RBI, including a solo home run in the ninth inning. Colton Crocker went 4-for-5 as RSU registered 16 hits.
 
The three-game series concludes tomorrow (March 13) with a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m. at Dickson Stadium in San Antonio, Texas.
