CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's basketball led from start to finish in a 79-68 victory over Oklahoma Christian Thursday in a Heartland Conference clash on Play 4Kay night at the Claremore Expo Center.
Three players scored in double figures for the Hillcats as they snapped a five-game losing streak to OC hitting 10-of-20 from long range, the third-highest shooting percentage in program history.
RSU held the Lady Eagles to 0-for-10 shooting in the opening stanza. The Hillcats were able to take advantage of OC's shooting woes to take a 15-9 advantage at the end of the period started by a strong inside game from
Natasha Kindred, who scored RSU's first six points.
Heather Roberts struck for a four-point play during an 8-0 run late in the frame.
The Hillcats extended their lead to as many as 17 points off a pair of free throws from
Lauren Schuldt with 2:17 remaining in the second quarter. Kindred scored 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting to pace RSU to a 38-24 advantage heading into intermission. Four different played converted the team's five three pointers in the quarter.
The Lady Eagles were able to trim a 14-point halftime deficit to five points after back-to-back baskets from Sarah Parker and a jumper from Daisha Gonzaque with 6:43 remaining in the third period.
The Hillcats responded with a run over their own, scoring the final seven points of the quarter to take a 57-42 advantage at the end of three quarters of play.
Madison Dearmin had five points and Schuldt had two blocks during the run. Schuldt's fourth block of the night, in the final period, tied an RSU record for total blocks in a season with 35.
RSU extended its run to 11-0 with a pair of layups from
Carlye Bohannan and Kindred to open the fourth quarter. The Hillcats stretched the margin to 20 points with a
Kami Bunch layup with 6:51 remaining in the game.
Bunch had a solid night for the Hillcats, scoring 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting, grabbing eight boards, and dishing out six assists. Kindred and Roberts added 18 and 14 points, respectively, for the home side.
Parker had 24 points and six rebounds for the Lady Eagles. The Hillcats held the fourth-leading scorer in the conference, McKenzie Stanford, to five points on 1-of-10 shooting on the night.
