PORTALES, N.M. – The Rogers State men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Eastern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon at Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium.
ENMU took a 1-0 lead late in the first half, but the navy and red scored early in the second stanza for the 1-1 tie. After two overtime periods of 10 minutes, the score remained 1-1.
The host Greyhounds took a 1-0 advantage late in the first half as Nicholai Alstrom scored in the 42nd minute.
RSU came out fast in the second half as the Hillcats tied the score in the 55th minute.
Niall Smith, who registered his first goal of the season, put in the equalizing tally from five yards out from the left side of the box.
Saul Gutierrez got the assist on the Smith goal.
The Hillcats dominated in shots, holding a 27-12 advantage in the contest, including an edge of 12-7 in shots on goal. Although the Hillcats held such an edge, they could only manage the one goal in the 1-1 draw. RSU had the most opportunities in the first overtime with a 6-1 shot advantage plus totaled seven shots to only two in the second half.
Cody Gamill went the full 110 minutes in goal, totaling six shots while allowing the one goal. He moved to 6-3-3 on the season.
The Hillcats (6-3-3, 3-3-2) end their three-game road stretch at No. 18 Midwestern State on Thursday (Oct. 13) in Wichita Falls, Texas. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
