ADA, Okla. – The Rogers State women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking, double overtime 3-2 loss to East Central Sunday afternoon at Tiger Field.
ECU registered an early goal to take the 1-0 lead but
Paige Pontarolo had an answer in the 30th minute with her first goal of the season, knotting the score 1-1.
The Tigers regained the lead before half time and clung to the one-goal advantage as they went to the locker room at the break.
The Hillcats rallied for the equalizer in the 77th minute as
Kimberlin Bennett scored her first collegiate goal.
LeighAnn Craig put a shot on frame in the 83rd minute but ECU goalkeeper Chloe Hull was able to make the save to keep the game tied. Taylor Stover made three saves in goal for RSU over the last 10 minutes of regulation to send the game into overtime.
Neither team was able to earn the game-winning goal in the first 10-minute overtime period despite each having opportunities. However, Taylor Kennedy found the back of the net in the 104th minute to give ECU its first win of the season.
Each team put 10 shots on frame and the RSU defense caught the Tigers offsides nine times in the game. Stover made seven saves in goal but took the loss for RSU. Hull earned the win with eight saves in the contest.
Rogers State (0-5) returns to Soldier Field Thursday at 5 p.m. as the Hillcats battle Southern Nazarene.
