Hillcats Fall Twice in Mid-Week Bout

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep against Northeastern State on Tuesday evening at the Diamond Sports Complex.

The RiverHawks registered 13 hits en route to the 11-3 victory in the opener. In the nightcap, a four-run fifth proved to be the difference, propelling NSU to an 8-4 win.

GAME ONE

Despite taking the lead twice to start the game, the Hillcats were unable to hold on as they suffered the 11-3 loss.

RSU struck in the bottom of the first frame with a two-out rally. Carley Conley got things started with a double ripped down the right field line. Katlin Alexander followed with a walk and Whitney Hamilton drove in Conley with a single to right field, giving the Hillcats the one-run lead.

NSU evened the score in the top of the second with the help of an RSU error. The Hillcats battled back to regain the advantage in the bottom half of the frame. Rachel Jones led off the inning with a double and scored on a single by Jamie Kowalick.

The advantage was short-lived for RSU as the RiverHawks regained the lead in the top of the third with a Bailey Applegate RBI single. NSU added to its lead in the fifth with one run, added two in the sixth, and put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh with a six spot.

Alexander started a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh with a solo shot but one run was all the Hillcats could manage in the final frame.

Bailey Kaderka (4-12) was tagged with the loss, tossing 3.1 innings in relief, allowing six runs, four earned, on seven hits.

Kayce Wooldridge (9-8) earned the complete-game victory, allowing three runs on nine hits.

GAME TWO
The RiverHawks took an early lead in the top of the second as Megan Ewton drove in a pair of runs on a double.

RSU bounced back in the third, stringing together five hits to plate three runs for the 3-2 advantage. Malori Moss led the inning with a solo shot belted over the right-center field fence. Conley ripped a RBI single up the middle and scored later in the inning on an Alexander single to left center.

In the fifth, NSU jumped in front with a four-run inning. RSU cut the deficit in the bottom of the frame with a solo home run by Conley. It was the senior's fourth round trip of the season tying Hamilton for the team lead.

The RiverHawks put two more runs across home plate in the top of the seventh, pushing their lead to 8-4. RSU threatened in the bottom of the frame but left two runners stranded to end the game.

Kaderka (4-13) suffered the loss, tossing 3.1 innings of relief, allowing four runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts. Laura Fleck (3-3) earned the win for NSU, registering the complete-game win.

Rogers State (9-22) returns to action Friday as the Hillcats travel to Austin, Texas to take on St. Edward's. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
