DURANT, Okla. – The Rogers State baseball team broke open a tie game scoring four unanswered runs for a 6-2 non-conference win at Southeastern Oklahoma State Tuesday at The Ballpark in Durant.
Zach Tyson put together another great performance from the mound earning his second win in as many starts throwing six solid innings, before letting the bullpen take care of the final three frames.
The Hillcats broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third getting an unearned run against SE starter Nick Johnson.
Johan Ochoa led the frame singling to center and came around to score on a single off the bat of
Caleb Kohlmeyer.
RSU got two, two-out hits in the fourth from
Zack Ashford and
Garrett Hall but failed to put another run across. The Savage Storm took advantage to tie things up in the bottom half of the inning on a double by Dylan Helms.
Alex Cochran drew a lead-off walk in the fifth and gave RSU a 2-1 lead scoring on a single by
Andrew Vanisi. A sacrifice fly by Chance Burcham evened the score again for SE in the bottom of the frame against Tyson.
Three straight singles by
Chase Knott, Ashford, and Hall led to the eventual game-winning run in the top of the sixth as Hall ripped a hit through the right side plating Knott from third.
Trae BoBo and Knott added RBIs on consecutive at bats for RSU in the seventh scoring Kohlmeyer and
Cesar Rodriguez.
Blake Heston scored on a Storm throwing error adding an insurance run in the ninth as the Hillcats got the road win, 6-2.
Tyson (2-1) picked up the win on the mound for RSU throwing six innings allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out four.
Mason Marquette and
Michael Fusselman threw the final three innings giving up just one hit.
Mathew Benedict (0-3) suffered the loss for SE allowing three runs on four hits in just one inning of relief work.
