GRUVER, TEXAS – The Rogers State softball team rounded out a four-game series against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep.
The Hillcats tallied a pair of short-game victories to sweep the series. In the opener, RSU pounded out 11 hits en route to an 11-0 win. In the nightcap, the Hillcats belted a trio of home runs and tallied 14 hits to earn a 12-0 win.
GAME ONE After two scoreless frames, the Hillcats dented the scoreboard in the third inning. With two outs,
Ashleigh Stidman drew a walk and stole second base.
Jamie Kowalick followed with a RBI double to centerfield and scored with a RBI triple by
Cailin Simpson.
Carley Conley followed with a triple of her own to drive in Simpson.
Katlin Alexander rounded out the scoring with a RBI single to left field.
A seven-run fifth led to the short-game victory. With bases loaded,
Whitney Hamilton crushed a grand slam to clear the bases.
Bailey Spencer followed with a solo shot of her own and Simpson completed the scoring with a two-RBI single to left field.
Simpson went 3-4 with three RBIs while Conley and Hamilton registered two hits apiece.
Aubrey Voboril (1-1) earned the win in the circle for RSU, allowing just two hits with five strikeouts.
GAME TWO In the twin bill finale, RSU tallied runs in each of the first four innings earning the 12-0, five-inning, run rule win.
Simpson got the offense started in the first with a one-out double and Conley followed with a single. Simpson advanced to third on the hit and scored on an error by the centerfielder.
Kowalick registered a RBI single up the middle to start the scoring in the second and Conley added three more runs with a home run. Stidman added a run in the third with a RBI groundout.
In the fourth, Simpson led off the inning with a home run and Conley followed with her second homer of the game. Shurtliff added an RBI groundout,
Taylor Sutterfield registered a RBI single and
Makenzie Kirk completed the scoring, belting a two-run home run.
Bailee Kaderka (4-3) earned the win in the circle, tossing three scoreless innings, allowing four hits with one strikeout.
Rogers State (5-7, 3-2) returns to action at the Diamond Sports Complex with a doubleheader against Central Oklahoma on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
