RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Rogers State baseball teams suffered a 13-0 non-conference loss to Arkansas Tech on Tuesday afternoon at Tech Field.
The Wonder Boys struck first with a grand slam in the bottom of the first belted over the left field fence by Bryan Heward.
In the top of the second,
Johan Ochoa reached base after being hit by a pitch and
Zack Ashford followed with a single to left field moving Ochoa into scoring position. However, the Wonder Boys got out of the inning with a double play. A sacrifice fly by Caleb McKinnon in the bottom of the second frame pushed the lead to 5-0 for Arkansas Tech.
After a pair of scoreless innings, the Wonder Boys added to their lead in the fifth, manufacturing a run off a RBI single by Patrick Castleberry.
The Hillcats were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position in the contest and left five runners stranded in the game.
The Wonder Boys racked up 13 hits on the day, busting the game open with a five-run seventh. In the eighth, Arkansas Tech sealed the win with a pair of runs to complete the 13-run win.
Starting pitcher Eric Estrada (0-1) was tagged with the loss after one inning of work, allowing five runs, four earned, on one hit with one strikeout.
Josh Ryan (2-0) earned the win for the Wonder Boys on the mound tossing four innings, allowing four hits while fanning two.
Rogers State (8-12 overall) will return to action Friday as the Hillcats host Heartland Conference opponent St. Edward's. The doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Hillcat Network at
