Hillcats Fall Short at OC, 73-67

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's basketball team suffered a 73-67 loss on Thursday night at Oklahoma Christian inside the Eagles Nest.
 
The lead seesawed eight times in the contest with the score knotted eight times. In the second frame the Eagles built a seven-point advantage with 7:30 to play in the game but the Hillcats used an 8-2 run to run the deficit to a bucket. RSU continued to knock on the door but couldn't gain the lead. With 3:47 to play, Kami Bunch converted a pair of free throws to keep the deficit at one point. OC took control in the final two minutes of the game with a 10-0 run. RSU cut the deficit with a trey from the top of the key in the closing seconds by Jade Hardy but the Hillcats ran out of time, suffering the loss.
 
Neither team had a commanding lead in the opening stanza. OC took its largest lead of the half with a layup by Makenkie Brown to take a six point advantage. Madison Dearmin cut the Eagle lead with a layup to end the half as the Cats trailed, 32-28 at intermission.
 
Bunch led RSU with 16 points while Mikaila Newton followed with 15 points. Dearmin rounded out the double digit scorers with a career-high 11 points.
 
Sydney Hill led all scorers with 22 points. The Eagles owned the boards, 42-28.
 
Rogers State (8-16, 6-10 HC) will return to action on Saturday as the Hillcats travel to Newman (Kan.) at 1 p.m. The game can be heard live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live and on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
