OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Rogers State men's soccer team doubled the shot total of Oklahoma Christian, but settled for a 0-0 draw Saturday afternoon at Eagle Soccer Field.
The Hillcats dominated possession in the opening minutes generating two corner kicks and two shots from
Lars Lindtner and
Caleb Pitts. The offensive pressure continued until the halftime whistle as RSU fired 13 shots, putting five on goal, and ended the day out-shooting the Eagles by a 31-15 margin.
OC nearly got on the scoreboard in the 38th minute as a shot from Brandon Little Axe hit the post and the teams entered the locker room deadlocked 0-0.
The second half continued much as the opening frame with the Hillcats controlling the pace of play and in the 55th minute, RSU was awarded a free kick in a dangerous spot.
Danko Kenjic delivered a strike only to have OC goalkeeper Evan Helker make the save.
Kevin Kwarteng nearly scored for the third time in five matches as the freshman's attempt at goal with 4:20 remaining in regulation rattled off the post and the game headed into extra time. After the first overtime session remained scoreless, the Hillcats turned up the intensity in the second period firing six shots, but failed to capitalize, ending the match in a draw.
Cody Gammill came away with his fourth shutout in his last five appearances for the navy and red, making five saves in 110 minutes. Helker turned aside 11 shots for the Eagles finishing with a clean sheet.
RSU (9-4-3 overall, 3-2-2 HC) plays its final non-conference match of the season Oct. 26 on the road at No. 3-ranked and unbeaten Midwestern State. The contest is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
