Hillcats Snap Streak in 2-0 Win over Dustdevils

LAREDO, Texas – The Rogers State women's soccer team put forth a complete performance on the road at Texas A&M International Saturday getting a 2-0 shutout at Dustdevil Field.

The Hillcats controlled play from start to finish getting goals in each half from Samantha Snow and LeighAnn Craig for their first win of the season.

Snow wasted no time getting the Hillcats on the board just 5:31 into the match on the first shot of the game for a 1-0 advantage. The junior transfer tallied her first goal for the navy and red with an easy tap in at the near post after a perfect pass from the end line by freshman Kimberlin Bennett.

The RSU defense and goalkeeper Tayler Stover held firm for the remainder of the half keeping the Dustdevils off the scoreboard despite several quality opportunities. TAMIU nearly struck for the equalizer 1:38 into the second frame, but one of Daisy Perez's game-high five shots hit the post.

The Hillcats took over from that point and had four corner kicks in a span of two minutes generating chances starting in the 52nd minute. Craig's header was saved in the 54th minute on a cross from Taylor Williams, but she was not denied at the 59:17 mark. The sophomore doubled the lead for RSU tallying her first goal of the season on a free kick from 25 yards.

TAMIU made a furious comeback bid putting up four shots in a short stretch late in regulation, but not one was on frame as Stover preserved her first shutout of the season. The freshman finished the afternoon with four saves, while the Dustdevils' Chelsea Knaack took the loss making five saves.

RSU (1-14 overall, 1-5 HC) is back in action for its final road contest of the season Oct. 24 at Oklahoma Christian. The match is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start at Eagle Soccer Field.
