Claremore, Okla. – The Rogers State women's basketball team's comeback bid fell short on Thursday night as the Hillcats fell to Oklahoma Christian, 76-67, at the Claremore Expo.
Trailing by 20 points with five minutes to play, the Hillcat offense started to click as
Amari Jones converted a three-point play to start the comeback. Jones sparked a 10-point run to cut the OC advantage to 10 points with 2:26 to play. RSU trailed by six points with 39 seconds to play but ran out of time and were forced to foul. OC sealed the win with free throws, making 9-of-10 in the final 30 seconds.
The Lady Eagles opened the contest with an 11-3 spurt and RSU used a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to six points. RSU went on to outscore OC 9-2 over a six-minute span and took its first lead of the game with a trey from
Kami Bunch with six minutes to play in the half. The advantage was short-lived as OC rounded out the half on a 15-4 run to take a 30-21 lead into the locker room at intermission.
Mikaila Newton and Bunch led the Hillcats with 17 points apiece setting a career-high for Bunch while McKenzie Stanford led all scorers with 25 points for OC.
Rogers State (5-11, 3-5 HC) returns to action on Saturday as the Hillcats host Newman at the Claremore Expo with tipoff at 1 p.m. The game can be viewed live on the Hillcat Network at
