Hillcats Fall to Falcons in Series Finale, 4-1

CLAREMORE, Okla.- The Rogers State softball team dropped the series finale against Texas-Permian Basin on Friday afternoon at the Diamond Sports Complex.

The Hillcats struggled offensively, being held to just one hit through the first four innings while the UTPB offense connected early, taking control of the game from the first inning.

The Falcons jumped out to a one- run lead in the top of the first frame with a RBI single ripped into right field by Miley McKee.

UTPB added to its lead in the top of the second as Aurora Burks belted a one-out home run over the right-center field fence. The Falcons kept the offense going, loading the bases with consecutive hits and a fielder's choice. Sidney Freeze scored the second run of the inning on a dropped fly ball by Jackie Flores in shallow left field.

The Hillcats put their first run on the scoreboard in the fifth frame. Carley Conley led off the inning with a single up the middle and advanced to third on consecutive groundouts. Jackie Flores drove in Conley on a two-out single up the middle to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Nikki Brailsford tacked on UTPB's final run in the top of the seventh as she drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch.

Brooklyne Harbert was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits. Yolanda Rios closed out the final 5.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts.

Desiree Valero earned the win for UTPB, holding the Hillcats to just one run on four hits with six strikeouts.

Conley was the lone Hillcat with two hits on the day.

Rogers State (13-31, 6-15) returns to action on Tuesday as the Hillcats travel to Missouri Southern for a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
