ADA, Okla. - The Rogers State softball team fell in a doubleheader at East Central on Tuesday afternoon at Lady Tiger Field.
In game one, the Tigers took a five-run lead in the fourth and sealed the short-game victory with a trio of runs in the fifth. The Hillcats surrendered five runs and the lead in the in the bottom of the six in the nightcap, suffering an 8-6 loss.
GAME ONE
The Hillcats left runners stranded in three consecutive innings and committed crucial errors, leading to the 8-0 run rule in the opener.
Makenzie Kirk and Jamie Kowalick each tallied a single in the third but were left stranded on first and second. In the fourth, Candace Monigold led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Taran Threet and moved to third on a ground out. Yolanda Rios drew a walk to put runners on the corners by ECU got out of the jam without allowing a run.
ECU plated five runs on four hits in the fourth inning with the help of one Hillcat error. In the fifth, the Tigers sealed the win with three runs on two hits and one RSU error.
Kowalick was the lone Hillcat with multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-3 in the game.
GAME TWO
The Hillcats jumped out to a one-run lead in the second. Carley Conley led off the frame with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jackie Flores and scored with a single up the middle by Katie Ellington.
ECU tied the score in the bottom of the inning but RSU regained the lead in the top of the third with a leadoff home run by Cailin Simpson.
RSU ended the top of the fourth with the bases loaded and the Tigers capitalized, plating two runs on four hits to take the lead. The Hillcats plated two runs in the fifth to regain the advatage. Threet led off the inning with a single and scored with the help of three consecutive wild pitches. Kirk drew a walk and scored on an error by the second baseman to push the Hillcat lead to 4-3.
Monigold belted a home run in the sixth while Threet followed with a walk and scored on a RBI double by Jackie Flores to give the Cats a 6-3 lead.
The Tigers pushed five runs across home plate on four hits with one error to take the lead in the sixth. RSU threatened in the seventh but left the bases loaded to end the game.
Ellington, Monigold and Simpson tallied two hit apiece to lead the Hillcats.
