LAREDO, Texas- The Rogers State softball team rounded out the three-game series at Texas A&M International with a 6-2 win on Saturday afternoon.
The Hillcats belted 13 hits in the contest and Yolanda Rios (3-10) tallied a complete-game victory in the circle to propel RSU to the win.
Carley Conley blasted a three run home run over the left field fence to start the scoring for the Hillcats in the top of the first frame.
After a scoreless second inning, Candace Monigold led off the inning with a single and Taran Threet followed with two RBI blast over the left field fence. Kelby Fritz kept the inning going with a two-out walk and advanced to second after Makenzie Kirk was hit by a pitch. Katie Ellington belted a single and Fritz scored on a miscue by the TAMIU defense.
The Dustdevils chipped away at the six-run deficit with two runs in the bottom of the third frame with two runs on two hits. The Hillcats shut down the Dustdevils the rest of the way. RSU retired the side in the fourth and TAMIU left four runners stranded in the final three innings.
Rios allowed two runs on five hits while fanning five in the win. Kyndall Reaves (4-5) was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, with two strikeouts in seven inning pitched.
Conley led the Hillcats offense, going 3-for-4 on the day with three RBIs. Rios, Threet and Cailin Simpson tallied two hits apiece in the game.
Rogers State (4-13, 1-5 HC) returns to the road on Tuesday as the Hillcats travel to Tahlequah, Okla. to take on Northeastern State in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
