Softball Cats Fall in Finale at Oklahoma Christian, 5-0

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State softball team fell, 5-0, in the series finale at Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon at Tom Heath Field.

The Hillcats failed to capitalize on its opportunities in the game, leaving seven runners stranded in the game. In the seventh RSU loaded the bases with one out but couldn't push a run across home plate.

OC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Nikki Davidson and Courtney Starr tallied consecutive RBI singles in the first. In the second, Kala Ratliff registered a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 3-0.

Taran Threet registered RSU's first hit of the game in the fourth with a two-out single to left field and advanced to second on a passed ball but OC was able to get out of the inning unharmed.

Martha Thomas added to the OC advantage in the fifth with a two-run home run to make it a 5-0 game.

Yolanda Rios (7-16) suffered the loss in the circle, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits with two strikeouts. Shea Coats tallied the complete-game victory for OC allowing six hits with seven strikeouts.    

Threet and Kelby Fritz led the Hillcat offense with two hits apiece.

Rogers State (10-24, 4-11) returns to action on April 1 with a doubleheader at Missouri Southern State University. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
