Softball Cats Fall Twice at Defending Champs UCO

EDMOND, Okla. - The NCAA Division II defending national champions, Central Oklahoma, handed the Rogers State softball team a pair of losses on Tuesday afternoon at Broncho Field.

Led by a stellar performance in the circle by Kalynn Schrock, UCO cruised to a 10-0 short-game victory in the opener. In the night cap, RSU held the Bronchos scoreless until the fourth inning when UCO dented the scoreboard with six runs en route to a 7-0 win to close out the twin bill.

GAME ONE

The Bronchos smashed 12 hits, including two home runs by Hannah Justus who collect seven of the 10 RBIs in the game.

The Hillcats couldn't get the offense going as Schrock fanned 10 Hillcats in the five-inning victory, facing the minimum to complete her perfect game in the circle.

Brooklyne Harbert was tagged with the loss, allowing 10 runs, nine earned, on 12 hits with one strike out.

GAME TWO

In the night cap, RSU left five runners stranded through three innings while the Bronchos left six runners on base.

In the top of the fourth, RSU left runners stranded on first and third to end the inning and UCO capitalized in the bottom of the inning.  RSU committed three costly errors in the frame, leading to six runs for the Bronchos.

With a six run advantage, UCO starting pitcher Nicole Brady used the momentum to shut down the Hillcats over the final three innings. The Brochos added one final run in the fifth to complete the 7-0 victory.

Yolanda Rios was tagged with the loss in the circle for RSU, allowing seven runs, five earned, on 10 hits with eight strikeouts.

Rogers State (4-20) returns to non-conference action on Wednesday as the Hillcats host Missouri Southern at the Diamond Sports Complex. The doubleheader is set to start at 4 p.m. and the games will be streamed live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
