RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Rogers State baseball team broke No. 13 Arkansas Tech's shutout scoring its lone run in the ninth inning of a 13-1 loss at Tech Field Tuesday evening.
Eight different pitchers for the Wonder Boys limited the Hillcats to four hits with Caleb Kohlmeyer providing their only RBI with a one-out double in the ninth scoring Justin Loya from first base.
Arkansas Tech scored early and often on RSU starter Collin Thomas posting a two-run first before taking command of the game 7-0 with a five-run second inning, all coming after Thomas got two outs, taking advantage of three Hillcat errors.
The Wonder Boys added single runs in the third and fifth before tallying four in the eighth to take a 13-0 lead into the ninth inning behind 16 hits, coming from 13 different players, including and all nine starters.
The Hillcats could not get more than one hit in any inning with two of the team's four hits coming as doubles. Gipson ripped the other extra-base hit while Logan Palmer and Joe Crow registered one hit apiece.
Rogers State (12-10 overall) returns to the Diamond Sports Complex for a Heartland Conference weekend series against former Sooner Athletic Conference foe Oklahoma Christian. The three-game set begins Friday with game one of a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. The series will be streamed live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
